Alex is a trained and certified mediator through the National Association of Certified Mediators and is pursuing further alternative dispute resolution education through the Pepperdine University, Caruso School of Law, Straus Institute, seeking a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution. After graduating law school in May of 2013, Alex has extensively litigated every aspect of childhood sexual assault cases under Code of Civil Procedure §340.1. Over the course of a decade, Alex has resolved, either by settlement or trial, countless seven-figure Code of Civil Procedure §340.1 recoveries, numerous eight-figure recoveries and in several cases, as part of team to resolve nine-figure settlements. As a trained litigator, Alex worked extensively on the Larry Nassar cases, numerous childhood sexual assault cases involving the Los Angeles Unified School District, as well as the Dr. James Heaps/UCLA cases and Dr. George Tyndall/University of Southern California cases. Through these cases, Alex has heavily litigated and been involved in these matters in State Court, Federal Court, and as well as Bankruptcy Court; handling a variety of issues (aside from the underlying merits of the case) including insurance and bankruptcy law. Having worked on behalf of Liaison Counsel in Coordinated Proceedings and Complex Proceedings, Alex has an extensive understanding of sexual abuse and assault cases, and has successfully litigated these matters through every phase of the process. Notwithstanding extensive experience in pleading motions, discovery process, and experts, Alex has also been involved with appeals that created California law regarding rights and obligations of litigants in civil sexual abuse cases.
While opening his mediation business, Alex maintains a full-time law practice (www.cunnyapc.com) where he continues to represent litigants in a variety of disputes. Alex volunteers his time with the Mandel Gisnet Center, Monterey College of Law, to help parties resolve a variety of disputes at the Superior Court of Monterey County, Marina Courthouse. He lives in Monterey County with his wife and three children.
